Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana has sent a message to Hakim Ziyech after Chelsea agreed a deal for the Morocco international. An initial €40m fee has been agreed between the two clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ziyech, 26, has played a major role in Ajax’s revival in recent years which included last season’s run to the Champions League semi-finals and Eredivisie title.

Onana made his first-team breakthrough at the same time as Ziyech’s arrival at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

After the deal for the 26-year-old to move to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season was confirmed, Cameroon international goalkeeper Onana took to Twitter issue an emotional message to his pal.

He wrote: “Teammate, friend, brother... I'd like to wish you the best for this next chapter. You and I have come from the bottom and we both know nobody gives you anything for free.

“We have been teammates for 4 seasons where we've lived moments that I'd never forget. We have laughed, cried, worked real hard and enjoyed so many experiences together and I wouldn't change these for the world.

“It's been absolute pleasure my friend. Always with a smile and always willing to help your teammates. We still have a few months to achieve big things.

“Enjoy every moment and we will enjoy of your company every day. Go smash it, brother.”

Chelsea confirmed on Thursday that a deal is in place for Ziyech.

A statement from the club read: “Chelsea Football Club has reached an agreement with Ajax to sign Hakim Ziyech this summer.

“The move is subject to the player agreeing personal terms and he will remain at the Dutch club for the rest of this season.”

Ziyech, who has been the Eredivisie’s assist king in the last three seasons, has chipped in with eight goals and 21 assists in all competitions this term.

Ajax team-mate Donny van de Beek has also backed Ziyech’s switch.

“I think it’s a very nice club with a lot of young players that can grow,” Van de Beek said.

“I think Hakim will certainly be in place. Everyone of course has their opinion about that, but I think it’s a nice club for him.”
