Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has key concern behind Nathan Ake transfer snub decision

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has cooled on the idea of bringing Nathan Ake back to the club this month because of one particular concern.

Ake left Stamford Bridge to join Bournemouth on a permanent deal in 2017 after spending a season on loan with the Cherries, having also had time at Reading and Watford while a Chelsea player.

The Evening Standard report despite being able to snap up the 24-year-old for that sum, likely below what Bournemouth would demand from other interest clubs, Chelsea have gone off the idea of bringing him back.

As a result of those frequent scouting missions, it is claimed Lampard is not sure whether Ake is suited to his team's style of defending.

The former midfielder, Chelsea's all-time top goalscorer, prefers to adopt a high defensive line, and there are doubts as to whether the Dutchman would be able to play in such a system effectively.

One downside with the 19-year-old is that unlike Ake, Dunk and Diop, he has no prior experience of the Premier League and also played only 12 times in Serie A. Should the Londoners fail to sign another centre-back, they could therefore revisit interest in Ake late in the window with Lampard keen to bolster his back-line.

"Asked about Ake's future, Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe said last week:"I'm not going to play games with Nathan.
