Frank Lampard has dismissed transfer speculation linking Chelsea with a move for West Ham star Declan Rice.

Chelsea are eager to continue their spending spree after signing RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner and Ajax forward Hakim Ziyech and are targeting the addition of former Blues academy player Rice.

Lampard wants to transform Rice into a centre-back, but the Chelsea boss was in no mood to indulge rumours ahead of his side’s game against West Ham.

‘It is a special game in terms that we want three points,’ he said in his pre-match press conference.

‘Declan Rice is a good player, but there is no talk. Until these games are finished I will have nothing else to say on players.’

Chelsea released Rice as a 14-year-old, but the 21-year-old has gone on to flourish at West Ham and is considered one of the finest defensive midfielders of his age in the Premier League.

Lampard appears unrestricted by the financial difficulties that have hit other clubs during the coronavirus pandemic and is reportedly keen to sign a new left-back too this summer.

Ziyech and Werner officially become Chelsea players on 1 July, but will not be able to feature for their new clubs until the rescheduled 2019/20 season is completed.

The attacking duo will however be allowed to train with their new team-mates, as Lampard explained.

‘I am in the process of arranging that now,’ Lampard said about adding his new signings to the training squad.
