Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is reportedly targeting a move for Leicester star Ben Chilwell if the Blues get their transfer ban lifted. Chelsea cannot make any signings currently though are believed to be hopeful that the ban will be lifted ahead of the January window.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have a transfer ban after breaching a number of FIFA rules regarding academy players and could not make any signings in the summer.

Lampard has utilised Chelsea’s younger stars so far this season with the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori all impressing.

But, with hopes the ban will be lifted growing, the Athletic claim that Chelsea could target Chilwell in January.

Lampard reportedly wants to address Chelsea’s troubles at left-back with Marcos Alonso having been left out since the beginning of last month.

Emerson Palmeri has been first choice at Chelsea but he is reportedly not guaranteed to hold down a place in the long-term.

Chilwell has regularly impressed with Leicester, who have had a strong start to the season.

And former Premier League striker Darren Bent has backed a move to Chelsea for full-back.

Bent recently said: “I don’t know how much money they’re going to have if this ban is overturned, but if they can go and get Ben Chilwell I think that’s really the only position where you’d say ‘well, if we can strengthen somewhere, it will be there’.

“And if you’re going to get him, then yeah I’m all for that. But they don’t need to go and make wholesale signings.

“I think they could have a look at the squad, see where they might be a bit light, there’s injuries and stuff, but you don’t need to go and buy, other than the left-back with Ben Chilwell, any starters.”

It was recently claimed that Chilwell could cost up to £70million for any potential buyers.

And the 22-year-old has ambitions of becoming the world’s best in his position.

"Making my Premier League debut in October 2015, with my whole family in the crowd at the ground we used to go to when I was little…it puts all the tough moments into perspective," he said.

"And now I feel like I’m on my way. I want to be the best left back in the world.

"It feels possible, too, because I look at a guy like Andy Robertson at Liverpool.

“He has a great story, right? Almost quit, like I did, kept at it, pushed himself past the limits he thought he had, and now he’s one of the best in the world.”
