Chelsea fans react as transfer target Kai Havertz scores another goal

Kai Havertz has netted his third goal in two games since the Bundesliga returned during the game with Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday afternoon.

And it has ramped up the Chelsea interest in him.

The 20-year-old has been one of the breakout stars of the Bundesliga in the past couple of seasons and after two goals in the 4-1 win over Werder Bremen on Monday, the midfielder was at it again on Saturday afternoon.

The goal came from a rapid counterattack after Monchengladbach conceded possession cheaply near halfway. Karim Bellarabi dribbled down the right inside channel before feeding Havertz, who stayed just onside.

The 20-year-old took a touch to control before calmly sending the ball between the legs of the hosts' goalkeeper Yann Sommer from about eight yards.

Such impressive form has led to transfer speculation, once again, with both Chelsea and Liverpool believed to be interested.

And he has even talked up a move away from Leverkusen.

"Leverkusen are a great club, I feel good," Havertz told Sport Bild. "I have always said that. But, of course, I want to take the next step in my career at some point. That's my ambition.

"I'm ready to take a big step and I like challenges. For me, this also includes abroad. The coach is a very important person for me. It must be a good fit."

And his goals have got Chelsea fans excited about a potential summer move.

Havertz has been likened to edden Hazard, who made a name for himself at Stamford Bridge before moving to Real madrid last summer.

But former Leverkusen man Dimitar Berbatov, who of course made the move to England and enjoyed a successful Premier League career, believes now is not the time for him to make such a move.

“This week, Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz has been linked with a move to the Premier League and that doesn't surprise me,” he told Betfair.

Chelsea during the break

“He has great quality and he will become even better in the future.

“Havertz needs to get used to the sounds that are being made about him following his two goals on Monday night because teams are going to come after him.

“There's a lot of talk that Liverpool, Chelsea and other teams are interested in him, so now he needs to be careful, not let that go to his head and stay focused on his game.

“He has enough quality and if he continues the way he is going teams will still be there, they won't go away.

“I would like to see Havertz in the Premier League at some point, but not right now. I think it is a bit too early for him, I want to see him play more games, score more goals and get more confidence and maturity.

“I also think he will need a bit more muscle to play in the Premier League, we all know how defenders can squash you and smash you into pieces and you need to be ready for that if you are going to hit the ground running in such a demanding league.

“I think he should stay at Leverkusen and develop even more and get that experience which will help him for when the time comes to go somewhere else."
