Eden Hazard admits he struggled in his first season at Real Madrid after an emotional departure from Chelsea.

The Belgian star made more than 350 appearances for Chelsea in a six-year stint at Stamford Bridge, helping the Blues win two Premier League titles, the Europa League and FA Cup.

Hazard completed a dream move to Real Madrid last summer but scored just once for the Spanish giants in 15 matches before suffering a season-ending injury.

The 29-year-old described his first campaign at Real as ‘bad’ and said his success in the Spanish capital needed to be judged next season.

‘My first season at Madrid is bad, but not everything is bad,’ Hazard told RTBF.

‘It is an adaptation season. I will be judged in the second. It is up to me to be in good shape next year.

‘The group is good, I have met new people. For me it is a great experience. I still have four years of contract, I hope be in good shape.’

Hazard is currently in isolation at his home in Madrid, with Spain one of a number of countries in lockdown to tackle the spread of coronavirus.

More than 4,000 people have died in Spain as a result of coronavirus, with the disease infecting at least 56,000.

Hazard added: ‘I’m not saying I can’t catch it, but I’m inside the house, nobody’s coming, we can’t see anyone.

‘I’m a little scared, like everyone else, but I especially have to be careful not to pass it on to others [if I get it], that is the most delicate thing.

‘We have to take care of ourselves. I am concerned about weaker people, who have more problems, yes.’
