Willian is close to signing a new two-year deal with Chelsea, according to reports.

It is understood club legend Frank Lampard is the favourite to replace the Italian, however, Chelsea would have to pay £4million in compensation to Derby to release the 40-year-old from his contract.

The Brazilian, 30, has agreed fresh terms to keep him at the club despite interest from Barcelona.

The Sun has claimed Luiz’s club and international team-mate Willian will now follow suit, extending his stay at west London into a seventh year.

The Blues were at risk of losing Willian for nothing next year but saw him as an important deal to sort considering their FIFA transfer ban.

Chelsea’s top brass went back on their policy of only handing out one-year deals to players over the age of 30 when David Luiz committed his future to the club.

This comes after star player Eden Hazard completed his move to Real Madrid in a deal that could rise up to £150million.
