Chelsea's players privately admit that their dressing room lacks leadership and believe it has become a key factor behind the their dramatic slump, according to reports.

Maurizio Sarri's side were smashed 6-0 by Manchester City on Sunday and are in real danger of missing out on a top-four place in the Premier League.

Chelsea's woeful performance at the Etihad Stadium comes off the back of comprehensive away defeats to Bournemouth and Arsenal, while Sarri has openly admitted he has struggled to motivate his players.

The Italian also claimed that his current Chelsea side would never be known for their 'battling and fighting qualities'.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Chelsea's players are reluctant to pin the blame solely on Sarri and recognise that they have not shown enough character during the difficult period.

Chelsea's players are said to attribute their fragility to a lack of leaders in the squad and believe some senior members of the team are keen to blame others for their own mistakes.

The report claims that Sarri's decision to freeze Gary Cahill out of the team has meant that the 33-year-old's influence has diminished, while the Chelsea manager barely speaks to the club captain.
