Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas yesterday joined Ligue 1 side Monaco, managed by his former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry, on a three-and-a-half year deal.

The original plan was for Chelsea to only let Fabregas go when replacements have been found.

"Maurizio Sarri basically made it clear Fabregas was not going to play for Chelsea again," Solhekol told Sky Sports News.

"He said mentally, he'd already left and his mind was already in the south of France. I think it just made sense for Chelsea to do the deal now."

"As far as Fabregas himself is concerned, it's a great move for him."

"He's going to Monaco, on a three-and-a-half year contract and living in the south of France, and also Chelsea will be saving a lot of money on wages they pay him."

Fabregas described the move as "a new project" and a "Great honour".
