This may have been a game billed around two of Chelsea’s former stars on opposing benches, but it was two youngsters hoping to become legends at the club they have grown up at that got Frank Lampard’s team back to winning ways.

Chelsea rolled out the red carpet for Villa first-team coach John Terry on his first return to Stamford Bridge since his departure as a player, as the home fans displayed two banners in his honour ahead of kick-off.

The Blues supporters also sang the names of both Terry and their head coach Lampard, who featured on the front of the club programme together.

But the nostalgia was eventually replaced by excitement over the future, as goals from Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount were enough to seal a first win in three Premier League games and ensure Chelsea bounced back from their shock defeat to West Ham United.

Abraham had recovered from the hip injury he suffered in Valencia to start against the club he scored 26 goals for during a season-long loan last term.

Both sets of fans chanted his name during the opening 20 minutes and it was in the 24th minute that Abraham gave the hosts the lead.
