Home Manchester United Transfer Rumours

Angel Gomes has rejected a new contract at Manchester United.

Gomes, who became Man United’s youngest debutant since 1953, is now set to become a free agent with his deal to expire at the end of June.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had hoped he would sign a new deal, but the Red Devils were unable to reach an agreement with his representatives, as they were “underwhelmed” by the offer on the table.

According to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell, as relayed by @utdreport, United made an improved offer to try and keep him, although he had reservations about game time.

He has not featured since the Premier League restart and has now made up his mind to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

The 19-year-old, who turns 20 in August, has a number of intermediaries acting on his behalf.

Yes No

Jorge Mendes has assisted his family over the years, as he represents his godfather Nani, while super-agent Pini Zahavi took over proceedings, and this has reignited Chelsea’s interest.

Gomes has only played 36 minutes of senior football all season and it is too early to tell if he will be able to live up to his full potential in the future.

Naturally, loads of United fans slammed the teenager’s “mistake,” as several think he has made the wrong decision. One fan branded the situation as a “disaster” while another added he is “bang average” in reference to the fact he is still largely unproven.

Scroll through some of the scathing reactions so far…

Anyone who watched the games could see this. He was bang average at a time when the quality of players he was replacing (Lingard, Pereira) was far below what is required anyway.

All the best to him, but he won't play at the top level.

This is just silly, “continued absence since footballs return”

Commit then get back in the frame! You don’t get picked if you look likely to leave in 2/3 weeks!

Bro I’m not bothered atol he has made the worst mistake of his career

— Fiena (@Fiena96256412) June 30, 2020

At this moment, he isn’t good enough for our starting 11. I get really frustrated with Youth players at United thinking that they can walk straight into the first team. Pay your dues & be patient!

He won’t get into any of the top 6 starting 11’s either, so he’ll be stepping down

Sign your contract & you’ll get game time. Teenagers shouldn’t be holding clubs to ransom. Sign it or sling it.

That is a disaster

— alexander_alwis (@alwis_alexander) June 30, 2020

Absolutely and even in under 21 level he didn’t really show enough to warrant more minutes but some fans don’t know this because they don’t watch under 21 level and only watch YouTube clips of him
