Eden Hazard has revealed Thibaut Courtois urged him to join Real Madrid before his transfer move from Chelsea was complete.

Belgium forward Hazard has signed a five-year contract with Real and was officially unveiled to the club’s fans at the Bernabeu on Thursday.

Hazard scored 110 goals in 353 games for the Blues after joining from Lille in 2012 and was signed by Real in a deal that could exceed £150million.

The Belgian star will join former Chelsea team-mate Courtois in the Spanish capital and has revealed the goalkeeper was keen to see him arrive through the doors at Real.

‘I’ve talked a lot with Thibaut about Madrid, he told me that if I had even a tiny chance to come here I had to take it because it’s the greatest team in the world,’ Hazard said.

‘He’s a good friend and I’m very happy that he’s here too, and I hope we can win many trophies together.’

Hazard developed into a club legend during his seven-year stay at Chelsea and scored twice to help the club win the Europa League last month.

On his Facebook page, the 28-year-old said: ‘Leaving Chelsea is the biggest and toughest decision in my career to date.

‘I hope you understand I had to pursue my next chapter, just as each and every one of you should when you have the chance to pursue your dreams.

‘Now it’s in the open I would like to put on record one thing was always clear to me, I have loved every moment at Chelsea and not once did I ever consider, nor would I have left for any other club.’

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia, meanwhile, paid tribute to Hazard, saying: ‘The memories he leaves us with will not fade.

‘He provided all who watched Chelsea play with great entertainment and many match-winning contributions, and for that we thank Eden enormously.

‘He has been a model professional throughout his time at the club, a wonderful individual to have around and a joy to work with.’
