Former England and Chelsea striker Eni Aluko has announced her decision to retire from football at the age of 32.

Her 102nd and final England cap came in 2016, after which Aluko was embroiled in a discrimination case against former England manager Mark Sampson.

Thanks for the full circle moments and crazy unexpected journey.” Aluko spent two years at Chelsea from 2007-2009 before leaving to play football in America.

In 2017, the FA apologised to Aluko for racially discriminatory remarks made by Sampson in 2014.

“It’s time to hang up my boots and retire as a professional footballer,” Aluko posted on Twitter.

Aluko left her last club Juventus in December, having won the Coppa Italia and the Serie A title during her time with the Italian outfit.

Retirement was considered at the age of 25 but she returned from the States to join Birmingham before returning to west London where, across six years, she won three FA Women’s Super League titles and two FA Cups.
