Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel has taken to social media to give Chelsea fans an update on his recovery from injury.

The 26-year-old has made just four first team appearances for the Blues after completing a transfer from Vitesse in 2013, mainly spending his time out on loan to clubs such as Stoke City, AC Milan and, most recently, PSV Eindhoven.

However, an anterior cruciate ligament injury has meant that the player is going through the long road to recovery, with the aim of making it back in order to be able to make a challenge for a place in Frank Lampard's first team this season.

The return of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Reece James and N'Golo Kante from injury have served as a major boost to Chelsea, and van Ginkel, along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek is working hard in order to provide Lampard with more midfield options.

Van Ginkel has posted a video of himself running on the anti gravity treadmill on his Instagram account, with the caption 'step by step'.

The midfielder captained PSV to the Dutch title in 2017/18, but has been out of action for over a year with the injury.

He could have played his last game for the Blues, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he will be available on a free transfer should Chelsea decide not to extend it.
