Chelsea will make a late check on Tammy Abraham's fitness ahead of the Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

There were initial fears of a lengthy lay-off, with suggestions that the striker had been taken to hospital for a scan, however, both head coach Frank Lampard and Abraham himself moved to ease the concerns of Chelsea fans after the match.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of the game against Villa on Wednesday night, Lampard said: "We are giving him every opportunity to play tomorrow.

Olivier Giroud deputised for the England striker against Manuel Pellegrini's side at the weekend, but the Frenchman was noticeably rusty and Frank Lampard will be desperate to have his top scorer back for the visit of Villa, after back-to-back Premier League defeats.

"You can’t isolate it to one player and game.

The striker missed the 1-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday after failing to recover from the hip injury he sustained during the second half of the Champions League match at Valencia last week.

He can’t just be the reason for losing the game [against West Ham].
