Frank Lampard singled out 18-year-old midfielder Billy Gilmour for praise after seeing Chelsea beat League of Ireland side St Patrick's Athletic 4-0 in Dublin.

Goals from Mason Mount, Emerson Palmieri and Olivier Giroud gave Lampard his first win in charge of Chelsea after his team were held 1-1 by Bohemians on Wednesday.

For the second game running, Lampard took the opportunity to name two different XIs as he evaluates his squad, with Gilmour one of those introduced at the interval.

'Billy Gilmour has had a brilliant trip,' Lampard said post-match.

Gilmour started his career in his homeland with Rangers before moving south of the border to join Chelsea after he turned 16 in 2017.

Since his move to Stamford Bridge, Gilmour has continued to develop, establishing himself as a key member of the U18 squad last season.

Like a number of Chelsea's young players, Gilmour will be hoping to push himself into first-team contention this term with the club unable to sign any new players due to their transfer ban.
