Liverpool's stand in goalkeeper Adrian made a name for himself on Wednesday as he saved Tammy Abraham's penalty to help his side lift the UEFA Super Cup.Brought in this summer as a back-up to Alisson Becker, Adrian got his chance much sooner than expected after Alisson had to limp off the field against Norwich on the opening day of the Premier League.

His next test was a UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea, and he ended up making the deciding save in the penalty shootout.

The Spanish newspapers went mad for their fellow countryman after the match, with Marca calling him 'Liverpool's new hero.

AS went with the headline 'Adrian, from unemployment to glory.

Adrian was released by West Ham at the end of last season after being replaced by Lukasz Fabianski, and his last match was all the way back in January in the FA Cup.However, Liverpool snapped him up on a free transfer in early August, and was quickly thrust into the side following Alisson's injury.

It wasn't just the penalty save though, as Adrian made an excellent save at the feet of Mateo Kovacic in the first half, and also pushed a thundering drive from Pedro onto the bar.

There was controversy after the match however, as replays revealed that Adrian had stepped off his line ahead of his penalty save.
