Michael Ballack admits he wished he'd prolonged his Chelsea stay rather than leaving Stamford Bridge in 2010.

The 34-year-old then proceeded to take up an offer with his former club Bayer Leverkusen, but concedes with hindsight he should've stayed at Chelsea.



"It was more or less everyone's fault - the players' fault.



Ballack wanted a new two-year contract but the club were only handing out one-year deals to players north of a certain age.

I wanted two," Ballack said.

"I could never imagine that I would go back to [Bayer] Leverkusen.

The German spent four years in west London before heading back to Germany despite Carlo Ancelotti's best efforts.
