Rafael Van der Vaart has said that to have seen new Chelsea signing Hakim Ziyech in a Tottenham shirt would have “softened his misery” over his compatriot’s move.

Chelsea announced on Thursday that Ajax winger Ziyech will move to West London in the summer, with the move subject to personal terms being agreed.

The move is an important one for Blues boss Frank Lampard, who was visibly frustrated at his side making no new additions during the January transfer window, despite their transfer ban being lifted.

Taking to Twitter, former Tottenham midfielder Van der Vaart offered his thoughts on how Ziyech will get on at Chelsea.

He wrote: “Wonderful player and great lad. With the right coach, Ziyech is a player who would contribute big time to many top teams in Europe.

“I believe Frank Lampard proved so far he understands creative players and understands entertaining yet effective football.

“Therefore I do see a good match between player-club-coach.

“Still a bit heart broken our MVP is leaving Ajax and Dutch football, to have seen him in a Spurs shirt would have softened my misery.”

Ziyech will arrive at Chelsea ahead of pre-season for the 2020/21 campaign and will bring with him a brilliant record for goal contributions.

It was the 2018/19 campaign that saw Ziyech announce himself on the European stage; his 21 goals and 24 assists helped Ajax in their run to the Champions League semi-finals.

This term, the Netherlands international has already been involved in 29 goals in 29 outings.

In other news, Tottenham are reportedly prepared to offer both Juan Foyth and Victor Wanyama as part of a swap deal with Inter Milan for Franck Kessie.

Foyth and Wanyama have both been linked with a departure from North London in recent weeks, with the latter said to have received deadline-day interest from former club Celtic.

According to Calciomercato, Spurs have initiated talks with the Serie A side over the swap deal.
