Chelsea star Pedro says he is paying no attention to his precarious contract situation with the west London club, insisting the coronavirus crisis is more important than discussing new terms.

The 32-year-old will become a free agent on June 30, but the Premier League season – which still has 92 games remaining – may well go beyond that date when the campaign is eventually restarted.

The former Barcelona forward has played a bit-part role in Frank Lampard’s side, making just nine league appearances, and looked likely to leave Stamford Bridge before the shutdown.

Asked about his situation now, Pedro told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser: ‘My contract ends soon but right now this is not the most important thing. I haven’t even stopped to think about this.

‘The most important thing is for everyone to show solidarity. Whatever happens regarding my future will happen but right now is not important as we don’t even know when we will return to training.

‘We have been in quarantine because one of our players [Callum Hudson-Odoi] tested positive for coronavirus, he is now well and we are very happy for him.’

Pedro’s homeland of Spain has been one of the most affected countries in Europe, surpassing over 3,400 deaths on Wednesday.

The Blues winger has paid for 3,000 protective screens across several Spanish hospitals to help fight Covid-19.

He added: ‘The materials are scarce and everything that can be helped is welcome. The hospitals told us that they are a good resource for them, and we wanted to contribute our grain of sand with these protective screens.
