The 38-year-old has hung up his boots after a career that spanned more than two decades Chelsea legend Didier Drogba led the tributes to Peter Crouch following his retirement from football.

Crouch, who played for a number of clubs including Tottenham and Liverpool, called time on a playing career that spanned more than two decades.

Announcing his decision in the Daily Mail, Crouch wrote: “I have had 23 years to prepare for this moment but, now it is here, you realise nothing can prepare you at all.

Sky Sports pundit Chris Kamara sent a good luck post, while Liverpool and Portsmouth both wished their former player all the best.

“The time has come refer to myself as a ‘former footballer’; this incredible journey I have been on since I was 16 is over.” Drogba, who shared the pitch numerous times with Crouch during his time in the Premier League said on Twitter: “Quality player and a nice guy his finishing was on (target) Enjoy it” @petercrouch.
