The three ways Chelsea can line up if N'Golo Kante starts against Wolves

N'Golo Kante is expected to return to action for Chelsea this week having sat out the international break because of a niggly ankle injury.

With Chelsea set to play three games in eight days, the Frenchman's workload will need to be managed.

Looking at Wolves’ strengths, it seems the least likely of these three options for Saturday but Kante did start there in that game against Liverpool and if it was to happen (also depending on Kovacic’s fitness), Barkley would likely operate on the left with a front three of Pulisic, Abraham and Mount.

In theory, the idea of Kante and Jorginho playing in a joint-holding role makes sense.

It is worth bearing in mind, however, that prior to the break Lampard spoke about doing what is best for Kante and not rushing him back.

But considering Wolves' counterattacking strengths and the need for a second league win of the campaign, Frank Lampard may still be tempted to use him from the start at Molineux on Saturday.

In the Super Cup defeat to Liverpool, Jorginho was stationed at the base of a midfield three with Kante on the right side of him and Barkley on the left.
