Ancelotti unaware of Garbutt release

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti was caught by surprise by a question from a journalist asking why defender Luke Garbutt, a product of the club's academy system, had been released.

The 27-year-old will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract after a loan spell at Ipswich Town and clearly, Ancelotti had been left out of the decision-making.

Lampard preparing for Werner and Ziyech arrivals

Frank Lampard is formulating a plan for when new signings Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech will start training at Chelsea and whether they will join up with the squad this season.

Werner and Ziyech officially become Chelsea players on July 1 but they cannot play for the Blues in the remaining games this season.

Getty

Lampard is working out a training schedule for the pair to ensure they hit the ground running at the start of next season.

“I am in the process of arranging that plan now,” said the Chelsea manager, speaking via Zoom at his press conference ahead of Wednesday’s game at West Ham.

“They are in different positions in the fact that Hakim has not played for a long time because of the Dutch league situation and Timo finished at the weekend.

“So we will formulate a plan for them that will be slightly different individually. And I will decide in the meantime how it looks at the training ground, and whether that means mixing with the squad or whether it means doing some physical work in the short-term for themselves.

“We have to make sure they will arrive at good fitness levels and freshness levels for next season. When I feel it is the right time to bring them in and around the squad this season I can do that. If not, the priority is that they are fresh and ready for next season.

“I think he needs to stay there. We’ve got an agreement with Saint-Etienne, he’s been over there all year,” he said.

“He has earned the right to play in that final if the manager wants to do that. I think we have to give him the opportunity to do that, to enjoy that and we can have him after that.

When does the 2020 summer transfer window open?

The Premier League's chief executive, Richard Masters, has confirmed that the window is not set to open until the end of the season.

The campaign is currently scheduled to finish on Sunday July 26th, though the FA Cup Final will be held on August 1.

Therefore, August 2 seems a likely date for the window to open, though Masters admitted there is not yet a plan for how long it would go on for - especially with no dates yet confirmed for the 2020/21 season.

A summer transfer window usually lasts at least 12 weeks. Recent reports suggest Fifa will allow leagues to open their windows up to four weeks before the culmination of the season.

Players can be officially registered with their new clubs when the Fifa international window opens on July 1 - such as Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner with Chelsea - though Fifa guidelines suggest players joining in July will not be able to play for their new clubs during the current 2019-20 season.

From January 1 onwards, Premier League players with six months left on their contract have been able to negotiate and agree pre-contract deals with foreign clubs.

Some players have signed short-term deals with their clubs to finish the current season, but there is no obligation for players to do so. However, they will not be able to play for a new team this season even if they become a free agent due to Fifa regulations on registrations.
