Valencia have sacked their manager, Marcelino Garcia Toral, less than a week before their Champions League opener against Chelsea.

It has been a mixed start to the season for Valencia, sitting tenth in the table after just three games and with four points to their name.

And now the Spanish club have announced that they have got rid of their head coach Marcelino, and it is believed sporting director Mateu Alemany would be leaving in the coming days.

Marcelino has been in charge at the Mestalla since 2017, however he has now lost his job, with owner Peter Lim pulling the plug.

Valencia will be the first club to visit Stamford Bridge this season in the Champions League, with Chelsea hosting the Spanish side on Tuesday.

The Blues then make the trip to Lille for their second match, with Ajax being the fourth team in Group H. It is going to be a big test for Frank Lampard and his young Chelsea side, who have also had a mixed start to their own campaign in the Premier League.

But according to reports, Albert Celades is going to be the man in the dugout at Stamford Bridge next week in the opening Champions League match.
